“Jorge Colón and Earl Pinto's seminar was the most effective and worthwhile event that I have attended as a student!"
-William and Mary Law Student
“Jorge Colón and Earl Pinto's "Tactics for Finding Jobs and Building Careers" seminar was the most practical and rewarding event that I have attended in my three years at William and Mary Law School. Mr. Colón and Mr. Pinto's networking strategies were very clear and easy to apply. Furthermore, Mr.Colón took additional time to speak to me about my own networking strategies and helped me narrow down what exactly I wanted to get out of my job search process. I think that if you are willing to listen and implement the strategies that Mr. Colón and Pinto discuss any law student or professional can be significantly ahead of the game. These strategies allow you to network for both your professional betterment and the betterment of those you network with. Additionally, these networking strategies are career and life-long skills that can only better you professionally and personally.”

- Most lawyers and law students have never been taught how to be confident and comfortable in social settings. Most are less comfortable socially if they have to balance building enough intimacy to earn trust with sales.
- Most lawyers and law students can no longer rely on their grades, school’s reputation, or expertise to build a book of business, or be hired. They need to create their own competitive advantage.
- The competitive strategy of the law firm is to have partners that can generate a shareable surplus of work. But not enough associates (and some partners) ever developed the social capital skills for building networks and trust sufficient to build a book of business.
- Law firms and law schools are seeking for solutions to help their lawyers and students build networks of trust, and they need to do it at an accelerated pace.
The Solution
- Social Capital is the most rewarding competitive advantage in legal services, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
- Earl and Jorge both mastered the art of social capital over many years of practice as professionals. Then, together, they codified what they knew worked to teach it to lawyers and law students.
- The SCALE introductory workshop for lawyers and law students was designed as a highly engaging workshop to accelerate the participant’s comfort and confidence in using social capital for finding the jobs they want, and for generating a client base in a highly competitive marketplace.
- SCALE 102 Workshop – This Social Capital Acceleration Program is a fast paced and practical training designed specifically for lawyers and law students to know how to generate highly specific social capital skills within a clear social capital strategy. We designed the training to accelerate their ability to go out in the field and feel confident and comfortable talking to target clients or employers, and earning their trust.
- Both trainings contain very granular, highly specific details that they can put into action right away in the field. They include the following:
- The business rationale for Social Capital. The Five Preconditions for a successful and sustainable law firm that no one ever taught lawyers and law students.
- Their social capital strategy, including mapping their social capital, and defining their social capital assets
- The basics for building their own Relationship Acceleration Plan (RAP), including the tactics to build, develop, and maintain relationships to achieve RAP goals
- The essential skill of identifying the best PINKS (People I Need to Know) for their RAP strategy
- The universal mindsets necessary to build relationships and earn trust, including Generosity, Authenticity and Accountability
During this intensive workshop, participants also:
- Engage in activities and listen to detailed explanations designed to develop basic practical skills to optimize comfort and confidence at any social or networking event. For example:
- How would you approach the hiring partner or in house counsel in a room where she is surrounded by her peers or friends?
- Your strategy, preparation and mindset.
- Understanding group dynamics and rules so you don’t violate them in your approach.
- Your body language during a physical approach, the timing of when to approach, and how to communicate comfort and confidence in a room no matter what happens.
- What the first words out of your mouth should be and how to neutralize “the tribe” that is nearly always protecting your target.
- Using time constraints and body language to create comfort, and observing your target’s physical responses to maintain rapport.
- Knowing when to move on, and what to say when you leave, and why.
- What to say and do if you are rejected. How to recover quickly without fleeing for the door, or worst - react with anger.
- How to apply Social Capital
Outreach Tools (SCOUTs) to achieve the RAP, including social media.
For example:
- Becoming a Conference Engineer and be the person everyone wants to talk to at any conference without being the lawyer with the most experience
- Leveraging non-legal industry events
- Earning accelerated social capital with blogs, websites and Linkedin groups
- Learn the basics of using social media tools as an accelerator for the RAP. We focus on LinkedIn, the primary social media application for career building, and Blogs/Twitter, for building a client base.
The Format
- Four hours of fast paced lectures, story-telling and exercises on a Saturday morning from 9am-1pm.
- Lots of snacks and refreshments provided by the host venue.
- Stable tech systems and tech support for 2 lapel mics, 2 handheld mics, for projecting a PP deck, playing music from CD or flashdrive, and internet access to play YT videos and search Linkedin, as well as other social media tools.
- Good lighting in the room.
